Oliver Frey was born in 1948 in Zurich (Switzerland). He worked as an illustrator for magazines and comic book creator in the 1970s and 1980s under the pseudonyms Oli Frey, Oliver Frey and Zack. He now lives in Britain where he was, between 2000–2009, publishing director of Thalamus Publishing. Well known for his illustrations for Fleetway’s War Picture Libraries and IPC Media's Look & Learn, Speed & Power, and “The Trigan Empire”, he became a household name with his covers and illustrations for computer and video games magazines Crash, Zzap!64, Amtix!, The Games Machine and Sega Force. His work has also appeared on the covers of contemporary Retro Gamer. Frey has also been noted for his historical illustrations (for the Oxford University Press and Thalamus Publishing). He is also very famous for being a particularly prolific creator of gay erotic art, including a series featuring Rogue, a bad boy hero style borrowed from Tom of Finland, for Him Magazine. He also illustrated, produced and edited several issues of Man-to-Man Magazine. More recent work has appeared in the US comic book series Meatmen.
