Gengoroh Tagame has become very famous by drawing hyper-masculine men, hairy and muscular, in total contradiction with the stereotypes previously in force in Japan, with their smooth, hairless and thin caracteres. In his own way, Tagame is often compared to Tom of Finland. However, his universe is much more complex, and often goes deep into Japan secular history and culture. Specialized in gay BDSM erotic manga, many of which contain graphic violence, Tagame's work is known for its masculine males and their learning of the physical and mental submission. This going to such a point, that Tagame's work has been publicly criticized for its violence by another manga creator, Susumu Hirosegawa.
Gengoroh Tagame’s works have been seen in many countries. Regularly published in several Japanese gay magazines (Sabu, G-men, SM-Z...), Tagame has produced dozens of bara books, such as Jujitsu Kyoshi at B product, Emono, Shirogane no Hana (3 vols.) Pride (3 vols.)... He is also the author of a reasoned history of gay erotic art in Japan from 1950 to today (Nihon no IEG erotikku Ato, Gay Erotic Art in Japan, Volumes 1 and 2. 日本 の ゲイ エロティック アート). Published in Japan, his work has also been translated and published abroad, in countries such as France, Spain and Italy.
