Gengoroh Tagame has become very famous by drawing hyper-masculine men, hairy and muscular, in total contradiction with the stereotypes previously in force in Japan, with their smooth, hairless and thin caracteres. In his own way, Tagame  is often compared to Tom of Finland. However, his universe is much more complex, and often goes deep into Japan secular history and culture. Specialized in gay BDSM erotic manga, many of which contain graphic violence, Tagame's work is known for its masculine males and their learning of the physical and mental submission. This going to such a point, that Tagame's work has been publicly criticized for its violence by another manga creator, Susumu Hirosegawa.
